"Where are the true lovers who find it trivial to sacrifice themselves and all that is precious for the sake of their beloved?"
~Habib Omar
BismiLlah walhamduliLlah wa salaatu wa salaamu alal kheirul khalqiLlah adada khalqiLlah!
In reflecting on life’s journey, there is no doubt that poetry was instrumental in my embracing Islam at around the age of 30.
Often when looking back, it seems apparent to me that Mawlana Jalaal uddin al Rumi was the first to call me to Islam by way of his poems and spiritual lessons which have been rendered in English.
In my 20’s I sought answers to a lot of things and was spiritually thirsty. I would read translations of the central books of many religions and poetry and spoken word became a medium of summarizing my understanding and attempting to live that understanding.
The spoken word culture was on the rise at that time in various cities around the United States and I participated in that quite a bit.
In my view, there were a handful of poets whose talent and character stood out in an incomparable way.
They were all muslims and I add them to the company of Rumi in calling me to Islam.
I had the blessing and honor at that time of recording a spoken word cd with one of them.
That experience would lead me in my travels around the U.S. to the company of one of the followers of Bawa Muhyideen, Allah Have Mercy on him. His knowledge and presence pointed me to Islam and it has been a journey ever since doing my best to learn and grow at the feet of great lovers and scholars.
“No doubt spending time with righteous scholars and pious people has impacted my writing greatly and is directly connected to how this project came to be.”
“Sincerity is a process. And, the only way to become truly sincere is to drain the heart of worldly attachments."
~Shaikh Yahya Rhodus
I have lived and/or spent time in the full range of demographics around the United States both before and after becoming Muslim. As a Muslim I spent a few months in Morocco and hope to expand on my travels abroad inshaAllah.
When I became Muslim, poetry became more of a casual hobby for me than a serious endeavor. However, I did notice that my writing style and content changed significantly in a way that is difficult to articulate other than poetically.

Moving forward I hope that poetry deeply rooted in love and praise of Allah and His Final Messenger, upon him be blessings and peace, will be a means for continuity in spiritual development and keeping the company of the righteous.
Furthermore, it is a platform for others to do the same and to create an organization of service that will help our community at large with improving long term health and wellness.
We proceed with the intention of the intention of the Beloved of Allah upon him be blessings and peace!
